We have an update on the recent story of a van carrying 16 people that overturned on I-85 and caught fire. Six were killed in that crash, and now charges have been filed against the driver of that van. The AJC reports.
The driver has been charged with six counts of vehicular homicide, as well as charges of reckless driving, improper lane change, and serious injury by vehicle. The police state that, in addition to the deaths, nine other passengers were injured in the crash along with the accused driver.
“Investigators believe that [the driver] made a reckless change of lanes from I-85 to I-985 which caused the van she was driving to flip on its side,” Gwinnett County police said Thursday in a statement.
Police believe that an unknown vehicle suddenly changed lanes in front of the van. The driver overreacted, lost control, and rolled the van onto its side. The force was powerful enough to slide the van over two lanes and smash it into the left lane guardrail. The van then caught fire.
