Last month, we wrote about an accident where a van wrecked on its way to an addiction recovery graduation. Six people were killed on I-85 in that crash when the van flipped and caught fire. Fox 5 reports.
Gwinnett County Police stated that there were 16 people in the van in all. After the wreck, police wondered if the van flipped on its own or if another vehicle was involved. Witnesses said there was another vehicle but they never collided.
The van was approaching the I-985 split going north when a vehicle unexpectedly changed lanes in front of the van. The van lost control, rolled, and slid across two lanes before hitting the guardrail. Bystanders heroically stopped to pull victims from the wreckage.
Now the family of one of the victims has retained legal counsel. It is the opinion of their counsel that a documented design flaw in the model of the Dodge van may have played a role in the case.
We commend the family taking steps to seek justice from the court system. It is a hard thing to do in a time of grief, but they deserve to have closure and compensation, especially when their family member had come so far against their addiction.
Our sincere condolences go out to all the victims of this tragedy.
