Every morning, thousands of people take to Atlanta’s highways to get to work. Nearly every morning, someone is going to get into a crash. Three vehicles were tangled up in a crash yesterday and sent one driver to the hospital in critical condition. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on I-75 near the Peachtree Battle Avenue overpass. It was so violent that all lanes were blocked for more than two hours, interfering with morning rush-hour traffic.
Police stated that a Dodge pickup truck going south was rear-ended by a Hyundai Elantra. The Dodge struck a barrier wall, a third vehicle, and a piece of debris.
The Elantra driver had to be taken to the hospital in critical condition. THe drivers of the other two vehicles had minor injuries.
One thing the police will investigate is if the Elantra driver was following too closely. When you drive too close behind another vehicle, you leave no room to react if they suddenly brake.
At slow speeds, like in rush hour, there may be little choice but to get close. But at this early in the morning the traffic should not have been that heavy in that location.
We hope that all the drivers recover from their injuries, and that the responsible driver or their insurer covers the costs.
