Police are investigating the cause of a crash between a car and a private ambulance that happened yesterday afternoon near a church. 11 Alive reports.
The crash happened just after 3 pm on Hogan Road SW near Bethlehem Baptist Church. Police say that a mother and her five-year-old child were driving on the road and collided head-on with a private ambulance. Both were injured significantly in the accident.
The people in the ambulance were also taken to the hospital, though they had less-severe injuries. According to the ambulance company, there were no patients in the ambulance when the crash happened.
Google imagery of the area shows Hogan Road is a two-way, two-lane highway. We do not know if the drivers were in a passing zone, but a failed attempt to crash would be one reason for such a collision on this road.
The crash could also be something as simple and dangerous as drifting over the line just enough to make the fronts of the vehicles touch. Ambulances are wide vehicles as well.
We hope that everyone injured in the crash makes a full recovery and that the police figure out who was the at-fault driver in this crash. Without more information, it could be either of the two vehicles.
