I-285 is like the circulatory system of Atlanta. It marks the outside of the main city and serves as a major access route. When this route is blocked, even late at night, traffic starts to build and we get the dreaded Atlanta traffic jam.
We had one late last night after a crash shut down the entire route according to 11 Alive. Thanks to the efforts of the Georgia Department of Transportation and Atlanta Police, the route was cleared before the morning rush hour.
According to the report, as many as three vehicles were involved in the wreck and multiple people had to be cut out of the vehicles due to the intensity of the crash. Thankfully, though there were injuries, none appear to have been life-threatening.
The accident happened between I-20 and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway. GDOT maps showed that the backup extended south past Boulder Park Drive. The interstate was reopened around 11 PM.
