Today’s crash is like something out of a video game A tractor-trailer crash caused a highway sign to fall across I-285 and block traffic for hours. WSB reports.
All of I-285 southbound after the East Ponce De Leon exit was blocked by the falling sign. Traffic was backed up for eight hours as officers cleared the scene and crews dealt with the sign. Two northbound lanes also had to be closed for the repair.

In addition to the falling sign, the overturned trailer spilled fuel onto the road and into a nearby ditch. The semi was hauling a 7,500 gallon tanker of diesel fuel and it ruptured when it crashed. Almost all of the fuel leaked out of the tank. Hazmat crews had to deal with the spill before traffic could continue through the area.
Video from WSB shows that the semi-truck had overturned and wrapped itself around the signpost. The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition. There has been no indication from the report about what caused the accident.
Quite fortunately, no other cars were injured by the crashing tanker or the falling sign. We hope that the driver of the truck recovers fully from his injuries.
