The AJC reports that the Athens Police Department is investigating a crash involving a DeKalb County dump truck driver. The incident killed one man according to the report.
The incident happened at an active construction site near Tallassee Road and Westchester Drive yesterday morning. The slain man was working on painting the road surface when the dump truck backed into him and ran him over. The victim went to the hospital, but died from his injuries.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into the incident. The report states that the driver of the dump truck had just emptied a load of asphalt before backing up down the road.
No charges have been filed in the case yet. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Officer James Trotter at 762-400-7326 or James.Trotter@accgov.com.
We wish to extend our condolences to the family of the slain victim. Construction is a very dangerous profession and accidents happen all the time. The many rules and regulations that OSHA enforces are all written in the blood of people injured and killed in construction accidents.
