One of the worst places to break down in Atlanta is the Downtown Connector. This is the point where I-75 and I-85 merge to go through Atlanta. It’s packed with exits getting around the city, and has a huge number of lanes compared to other roads. It also doesn’t have much of a shoulder in some places.
Get the strong arm
The AJC reported on an accident that happened on the Connector last Saturday. A large truck broke down with a flat tire on the connector at the Freedom Parkway exit. The truck had pulled over to the shoulder, as required by law.
A woman driving a compact car crashed into the back of the stopped truck. She was killed at the scene. The driver of the truck was uninjured. The APD’s Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and started an investigation about what happened.
Our condolences go out to the family of the slain driver. Due to the great confusion of lanes in that area, many people try to follow the car in front of them as best as they can and hope they hit the right lane for their exit.
A few years ago, large signs were painted on the roadway to help keep people in the correct lane for interstate exits and those helped lower the number of crashes and confusion, but it’s still a dangerous section of road.
