CBS 46 reported on an effort by Governor Kemp and the heads of state law enforcement agencies to crack down on DUI this holiday season.
The group flew around the state to give speeches warning people celebrating Independence Day that DUI will not be tolerated.
“The bottom line is this,” said Kemp during the group’s first stop in Atlanta. “All DUI and BUI deaths are completely preventable.” A BUI is boating under the influence.
The agents will be watching for speeding, distracted driving, reckless driving, and DUI. Quite often, DUI is a cause for the other three violations in that list.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources was highlighted in the speeches because they lost a member of their team 10 months ago in a DUI accident.
We too want to encourage you to stay sober this holiday, but if you choose to partake of alcohol, then prepare properly. Get a designated driver or use an Uber to get home. Program contact information into your phone before you drink so you don’t have to figure it out while you’re drunk.
Even better, leave your keys with someone sober so you’re not tempted to go out and drive. You could save your life and the lives of others by taking these simple precautions.
